Here you can find some common questions and the answers you’ll likely get from us.

The answer is no, during the “Restore Illinois” Phases, we are doing all consultation and scheduling over email and phone. We know it’s inconvenient and certainly NOT the way we prefer to do business, however, safety is our first priority. We hope to return to a “walk-in” shop as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The answer is no, in the State of Illinois anyone wishing to be tattooed must be at least 18 years of age, no exceptions.

The answer is no, we do not currently offer piercing services. We hope you’ll still consider A51 Tattoo for a new piece when you’re ready!

*UPDATE – DURING CoVID AND RESTORE ILLINOIS, WE ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY AND NO ONE IS ALLOWED INSIDE WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT.

Of course you can! We love when people bring others along, however, the City of Crystal Lake does not allow “observers” in the work area. They would have to remain in the waiting area during your session…which can be pretty boring for them if you have a pretty substantial design being worked on. As for children…leave them at home, please.

Our shop minimum is $150. We try to quote pieces whenever possible. Large and multiple session pieces will be by the hour/day rate. Every client idea is unique and there are many factors taken into account when we price tattoos. We use only the highest quality equipment and pigments along with training and experience to execute your tattoo in a safe manner so you’ll have peace of mind as well as a work of art you can be proud of.

Get a good night of rest, shower, stay away from alcohol prior to your appointment, keep hydrated and have a small meal.

Think about being comfortable, wear clothing that allows clear access to the area to be worked on. Try to plan on something that allows access while also covering areas you don’t want exposed (if possible). Also, be sure to wear something that wouldn’t devastate you if it got ink on it…we are respectful of your wardrobe, but sometimes ink uh, finds a way.

This is a question that most would probably receive an “eye-roll” for asking. What most people are really wanting to know is, “Are tattoos tolerable?” Of course they are painful, rarely excruciating, but certainly uncomfortable. One truth is, you’ll never know unless you’re willing to risk it.

Absolutely! But not because of the pigment color. White is usually the last pigment we put into a tattoo session and it signals that the end of your tattoo session is near!
